Good job Pope!!! I knew I liked this guy, but didn't know quite why...
Wallace and Grommit anyone?
from the u.k independent newspaper :.
" the theories of evolution and the big bang are real and god is not a magician with a magic wand, pope francis has declared.. speaking at the pontifical academy of sciences, the pope made comments which experts said put an end to the pseudo theories of creationism and intelligent design that some argue were encouraged by his predecessor, benedict xvi.. francis explained that both scientific theories were not incompatible with the existence of a creator arguing instead that they require it.. when we read about creation in genesis, we run the risk of imagining god was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything.
but that is not so, francis said.. he added: he created human beings and let them develop according to the internal laws that he gave to each one so they would reach their fulfilment.. the big bang, which today we hold to be the origin of the world, does not contradict the intervention of the divine creator but, rather, requires it.. evolution in nature is not inconsistent with the notion of creation, because evolution requires the creation of beings that evolve.. the catholic church has long had a reputation for being anti-science most famously when galileo faced the inquisition and was forced to retract his heretic theory that the earth revolved around the sun.. but pope franciss comments were more in keeping with the progressive work of pope pius xii, who opened the door to the idea of evolution and actively welcomed the big bang theory.

witnesses are quick to remind us to keep up with jehovahs chariot.
perhaps they should examine the context of the chariot, mentioned by ezekiel.
they always quote the first part (ezek.
It lost a wheel when the 1914 generation thing disappeared.....
i remember many years ago we would talk about those who leave the org.
something bad will happen to them.
because god was mad at them for turning away from the wt.
What are you talking about? Something HORRIBLE was happening to me! I was a witness! Can only go up from here!

selective reading is a quintessential element of JW doctrine
ok so aparently there was this young girl who wanted to study with the jw's because she loved the bible so much.
she asked her fathers permission but he refused, after much nagging though he said she could have a study if she was prepared to have one of her fingers chopped off.
he thought the is would stop her but she was willing so he got a knife and cut off one of her fingers... a little while later she wanted to attend the meetings and he said no and again when nagged said she could attend meetings if she had another finger chopped off so she agreed and he chopped off a second finger.
I heard one at ours....
A father returns from traveling abroad and realizes that he has Ebola, his oldest son says he wants to be a witness, the father gives him Ebola cause he doesn't want him to. The kid recovers and says to the father that he still wants to be a witness. The father purposefully gets bit by a rabid racoon and bites his son when he becomes sympotomatic. They both recover after a long bout. The kid still wants to be a witness, so the father.......(insert absurdity here)
Complete and total BS
i was delighted to hear of adjustments news, but it did remind me of what i'm sure a lot go through when they leave, here's a little of my story:.
when i married as a jw, and when we moved there was always a team of willing volunteers happy to drive the van or move the furniture or decorate.
additonally when you get married you have a list of items people want to buy for you, even if some had odd taste we received lots of needed and wanted items, sometimes 2 or 3 of the same type.. as a da'd person, also seperated from my spouse i needed to move home.
There is nothing more precious than self-reliance.
"what was the actual significance of that year, then?".
if jw's were overly zealous, what was the exact amount of zeal encouraged by the wts for a non-event which took up.
over 7 years of every jw's time?.
Being "overly zealous" is an indication of the hype surrounding the year. Most JW's wanted the end to come to justify their SPECIALNESS. When it didn't, well, it's easier to blame the result of the unrequited hype, then to accept that you followed an oracle with no credibility.
hi everyone, im begining to notice patterns of mental issues in the congregations and among the witnesses as a group.
do you think this is a trend in the entire world or is it exagerated in this organization?.
.
Delusion is usually a symptom of some deeper mental problem
the majority have good jobs, drive newer vehicles, have nice homes,go on vacations.all in all they have the smarts.. however, rwhen it comes to their religion, they are dummer than a sack of hammers.they drive around in circles to get two hours of service time.they can't differentiate what the fds/gb say is from jehovah god, when in reality it is the stuff that comes out of a horses ass.what the horse eats(as it were food at the proper time from the gb) comes out of the horse as manure(shit sounds better) as a loving provision from jehovah.. .
.
On the cusp of greatness, everyone wants to be special. Tell someone that THEY and only THEY have the TRUTH and that everyone else will DIE and only THEY will live, then everything else goes out the window and you have made ordinary people into egocentrical maniacs.
at the international convention last week i caught up with my old congregation and asked about the young ones...there were 2 answers.
1. they flat out left got a boyfriend etc.
and 2. havent seen them for awhile meaning they faded or went off the grid so as not to be disfellowshipped.
Julia' s point is well made. One becomes so indoctrinated that life outside the ORG is "too scary" and so they stay in. In essence, it becomes their culture just as much as the Amish or Yassidic Jew for that matter.
Most, however, are not that way. Most of the kids I see in the hall are not really "witnesses" in the same way I was a "witness" as a young man. They go to clubs, party, drink way more than I ever did at that age, and do absolutely nothing to "promote Kingdom interests." Bethel service is rarely mentioned among the young men. They are interested in what every other young person wants....independence.
I woudl venture to say that when most fly the coop of their parent's supervision, they will rarely if ever be seen at some "theocratic" activity except for assemblies to scope out chicks or get togethers to scope out chicks.
